Social Networks to Outpace Data Providers?

In digital advertising, we’re always looking for ways to motivate people — to buy a product, tell friends about a product, to sign up, participate, just do something. So the truth that is spoken in Sean Parker’s presentation at the Web 2.0 Summit is a confirmation of a truth we’ve been faced with for a while now; which is that companies providing valuable, reliable connections between people stand to have a lot more influence over the next several years. TechCrunch has reposted his presentation and I highly recommend reading through it. There’s a counterpoint to be made here though, which is that search is a very powerful tool, and is not likely to lose relevance even as the power of social networks increases. It’s no secret that more people are connected more often during the day as time goes on, so the true impact of the rise of social networks may be too hard to accurately predict.
